What is a virtual PBX and what can I do with it?
This is not a sales article and my wife and I share a look into our business. We are proud of what we built from scratch and we will share some of what we learned.
We sold eBay items out of our home and wrote for various blogs for many years. My wife also has an large orchids collection. One summer we bought so much for eBay that we ran out of room and had no room to bring the orchids inside for the winter. To solve that problem we bought a store on Main Street in downtown Windsor Missouri. We call the business “Orchids and eBay” - but the main emphasis is also on website development and blogging. None of the businesses seem to fit together, and we needed a god way to route our telephone calls. That is when we discovered RingCentral’s virtual PBX.
We have a local telephone number, a toll free number, 2 cell phones, and a VoIP telephone number based in Manhattan, New York City. At first we would answer the phone and people did not know if they reached the right number, had a wrong number, or what. In other words they wondered what orchids or eBay had to do with blogging, if they were calling about blogging. A virtual PBX solved the problem because you can have multiple extensions. Each extension is programmed to ring to the proper phone number, sales desk, or other location. Caller ID is passed with each call.

If they are out of the office the call can be forwarded to their cell phone.
Although we moved up to retail sales, my wife and I have a international business.
